View Full Version : Wal-mart's live fish guarantee...

OK, so I bought a fish exactly 30 days ago and found it floating on the top of the tank this morning.. So I start digging around for my reciept and find it and call Wal-mart. The guy on the phone told me it was a 30 return... PERFECT! So I ran up there and went to the return desk when this lady tells me it's only a 3 day return... I tell her I was just on the phone and they told me 30 days, and she said I either heard it wrong or was mis-informed. So I get mad and just tell her to throw the fish away. Anyways, I went back there to look at what they had because I was just going to buy another one. When I got it, I noticed on the bag it says "All live fish guaranteed 90 days with reciept". So I get my fish, and instead of paying at a register, I take it straight to cust. service and point out the return policy. She then tells me that it must be an old bag. At this point I ask her where her manager is and it was the same lady who had came and bagged my fish for me the first time a month ago (she had to do it because no employee ever responded to the "customer to live fish" page). She was the nicest lady then and still was today. She exchanged it out for me because it said 90 days on the bag, and she told me she would have to check with her supervisor on the really return policy. 3 days, 30 days, or 90 days??? Whatever it is, she told me if I kept the bag with the 90 day statement on it, and the reciept, that I had 90 days on this fish. I really think Walmart needs to get there act together... This is not the first problem I've had with incompetent employees, and probably won't be the last.

I think you are lucky to get a new fish. Usually if a fish dies after five to ten days it is something the owner is doing wrong and store's fault.
Have you de-chlorinated your water?( fish do not surved in un-treated Midland city water) checked the PH? tempiture? did you do a water change the day of the death?

Oh my water is in good condition, I believe. I guess I'll go buy a kit to test it out, but all the other fish in the tank are doing good. I have a few large cichlids and a bunch of small cichlids, and they pretty much leave each other alone. This little fish though was never picked on, but as soon as I put him in he found a plant to hide under and stayed there. He would not even come up for feeding time, so I would sink some food under there just for him, and HE WOULDN'T EVEN EAT! The new fish seems to be doing very well so I think I'm all set.

That's a good deal for anyone who wants a large tank!!! Mine is only a 29 gallon tank. When I moved out of my house I gave my fish to my neighbors. Still have the tank, and one day when I get another house I'll use it again.
As far as water quality, I originally used midland water to fill it (you almost have to for larger tanks) then declorinated and treated the water. I let filter system run for a week before I ever invested in fish. Best I can remember only 2 fish met their demise. The tetras I purchased did wonderful. My Glass fish died the first week. The plecaustimus (sp?) was lazy and never attempted to clean the tank. Alge became the ultimate problem for me. It's a full time job to maintain any aquarium this is for sure.

I'd be buying some more plecaustimus's :?
I wished I could have a fish tank & fish, they make the surroundings feel so serene.

I loved it, but I was working out of town alot and my wife wouldn't take care of it when I was gone. So I broke it down and put it the garage. now I don't have the room for it anymore
I was doing the salt water thing, had a mini-reef with all the corals and stuff, only kept a couple of fish tho. I had bad luck with fish.
My loony neighbor would knock on the door then come in and sit by the aquarium,(wouldn't visit, just stare for an hour then go home  ) I finally put a chair by the tank just for him.

I have a small 10 gallon freshwater tank and I put Ozarka spring water in there for water changes.
Bert, try Petsmart for future fish. Wal-Mart fish are poor quality and often sickly or infected with Ick.
I've been to Wal-Mart and no one ever answers the page for "Customer needs assistance in live fish" until they've been paged 3-5 times.

I know that makes me furious too!
I also love shopping at that Cichlid place behind H&R block. I can't remember the current name though - it used to be Cichlid Addiction.
I also sometimes check out the fish store on the road between T&T and Manor Park - I try to give him some buisness so maybe he can fix his place up a little bit. He has great prices too and can pretty much order you anything!

Keep it for a few more weeks. Once I get into my new apt I really want to start a salt water tank.
But 130 gallons... That's probably half the size of my new apt.

Fish tanks are excellent for your health. They relax you and are very good for people with blood pressure situations.

I am looking for one of those "fake" aquariums that have water and fake fish in them for my boys room. I thought it might help my little one and his fear of "spookibles" in the closet.
I bought a lava lamp and he loved it, but I didn't know that they got HOT HOT HOT so I have to wait until he is asleep and then turn it off. If he wakes in the middle of the night I am in trouble.
I don't know why he is afraid of things at night. My oldest never was. Last year we had to look in the closet every night to make sure there wasn't a scary "appleman" in the closet? It was right after he had made a paper "appleman" at mothers day out.
The spookibles thing came from the "Heffalump Halloween" movie that he loves to watch.

Maybe your youngest is more spiritually sensitive than your oldest. My oldest Sister used to see the "Shadow People" crawling around on her walls and swears to this day that it actually happend quite a few times.
she said there was quite a bit more things that happened. But this was the house we used to have Saeonces in.
Just thinking of all of it gives me the eebie jeebies :?

eeewwwwwwww that gives me the heeby jeebies..... it reminds me of coast to coast a.m.
Keep in mind that this is the same child that was also afraid when he was two years old because he thought that "Jesus" was living in the trailer house across the street and was trying to scare him.

and back to my topic, y'all were so right. My new wal-mart fish I bought yesterday is D E A D.  :x :x I don't think I'll ever buy a fish from wal-mart again. I'm just going to go get my money back.
And I hope these wal-mart fish don't start an Ich infestation in my tank. There was an Ich outbreak in my tank a couple years ago... Not fun to deal with.

Well Wal-mart can keep ther parasites to themselves now. I'm not shopping there anymore. I should support more of the local fish dealers. They're usually cheaper than Petsmart and wal-mart too, and have a better selection of cichlids.
