I have a female ferret I would love to find a home for. I do not know her age but I found her right before my son was born and he is now 6. I have 4 dogs and 4 cats and the ferret is just to much to deal with because of some changes going on in our lives right now. She sleeps most of the time but is very sweet. She doesn't bite and never has. I think she may be deaf because her squeaky toy I used to call her does not work anymore. I have a cage and almost a whole bag of food.

PM me if you are interested.

BTW, she looks kind of like this:

There is a pic of here somewhere in Pet Talk...I'll se if I can locate it!

Jazz, my boy of 13 years (kitty) had to be put down Saturday. He was a feral kitten, ironically adopted by one of my other cats. He hid behind our dryer for 3 months before he finally trusted us. He became such a loving little boy. His adopter died in a tragic accident when he was a kitten.

It is heart wrenching when I lose one of my pets. I invest so much of my emotion in them. The love and trust they return is immeasurable.

I miss his bed time visits. He would come sit between the wifey and I and purr until we fall asleep. His catnip play was phenomenal. This is the first time, in 30 years, I havent had a kitty to put me night night.....

Jazz, we love you, miss you, and you will be in our hearts forever.

So we have this older cat, long haired picky eating scared cat in the house. We are going to NM very soon for a few days. I'm not going to leave the cat alone for 5 days.
Cat throws up food or hairballs a lot, so makes a mess a lot.

I really don't know what kind of business keeps animals, keeps them alive. This is an older cat we have had for the last 4 months, indoor only, no claws, not many teeth etc. scared of new people.

What kind of business should I look for to keep this cat for a short while?
Need some ideas. Looking to get the cat somewhere out while we are gone.

Every 10 seconds an animal is abused in this country. By the time this show is over, nearly 360 animals will be tortured. Dr. Phil is a huge animal lover and he's taking a stand! First up, Rob says dog fighting is not a crime, and believes that it’s no different than boxing or football. He was convicted of a felony after authorities caught him in the act and now he says he wants to clear up the misconceptions about dog fighting. Will Rob get a wake-up call about this brutal "sport"? Then, they may look like a group of tattooed tough guys, but cast members from the TV show Rescue Ink say they’re on a mission to save animals in danger. Take a look as they go inside a dog fighting yard to demonstrate how they gather evidence for a bust. Plus, celebrity Paris Hilton makes a plea for several dogs in need of a good home.

09:05 AM CDT on Wednesday, August 11, 2010

By RUDOLPH BUSH / The Dallas Morning News
rbush@dallasnews.com

The manager of the city of Dallas' animal shelter was placed on paid administrative leave Monday while he faces charges of felony cruelty in connection with the death of a cat at the Westmoreland Road facility.

Tyrone McGill, 59, was indicted by a grand jury late last week, accused of failing to act to save a cat trapped between two walls at the shelter. Despite repeated requests from employees, affidavits say, McGill never tried to rescue the cat, who was heard crying and scratching at the walls before its death.

The case has called into question the management and day-to-day operations of the once-lauded shelter.

McGill, the shelter's manager for about two years, acknowledged when the took the position that he was not trained or experienced in handling animals, according to Skip Trimble, chairman of the city's Animal Shelter Commission.

"When we met, he admitted he knew nothing about animals, but that he was eager to learn. ... I have to say that I am shocked. But it's true he didn't have animal experience," Trimble said.

McGill was booked into the Dallas County Jail on Tuesday. He posted a $1,500 bond and agreed to a judge's order not to act in a supervisory role at the shelter pending the outcome of his case, according to officials with the district attorney's office.

Efforts to reach McGill were unsuccessful Tuesday, and his attorney did not return a call for comment.

The incident that led to his indictment began in early May, when shelter employees heard the cat scratching and crying inside the wall, according to an affidavit in the case. The cat had climbed into the ceiling and somehow fell in the space between two walls.

On May 4, shelter employee Kimberly Killebrew asked McGill what could be done to free the cat, and McGill said he would handle it, the affidavit states.

"As time went on and the cat grew weaker and less vocal, Killebrew continued to bring up the issue with the defendant," the affidavit stated. "The defendant repeatedly indicated to her that he was taking care of it."

But little was done beyond removing a few ceiling tiles, according to the affidavit.

By May 8, the cat stopped crying, though employees could still hear it moving.

"Upset, Killebrew pushed the issue and was told by the defendant that Building Services would be notified on Monday, May 10, 2010. On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, Killebrew returned to work and when it appeared nothing had been done, Killebrew again pushed the issue about cutting the cat out: the defendant responded the wall would not be cut," the affidavit stated.

The cat died sometime after that, and the stench became so bad that its remains had to be cut from the shelter wall.

The affidavit concludes by stating McGill acknowledged responsibility for the cat's death and that he "permitted the cat to die in a cruel manner."

Citing the pending case, city officials declined to respond to questions about what happened at the shelter or McGill's training.

They did release details about McGill's work history. He has been a city employee since 1993 and makes $66,122 a year.

Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins called a news conference Tuesday afternoon regarding the indictment but declined to discuss details of the case, focusing instead on a budget battle with county commissioners.

Trimble said Tuesday that he was angry, frustrated and disappointed to learn of McGill's alleged actions.

"If the facts of that affidavit are true, I just can't imagine someone letting an animal die like that. It's just that simple," he said.

A culture of fear at the shelter may have kept employees from taking their concerns to higher-level officials or shelter commissioners, he said.

"I truly think these people probably feared for their job if they tried to go outside the chain of command. I can assure you no one called me, or something would have been done," he said.

When it opened in 2008, the shelter was praised, even by the city's harshest critics among animal rights activists, as a step forward by Dallas in its treatment of lost and stray animals.

Trimble, who is familiar with the shelter's finances, said it is unthinkable that budget concerns would have been a reason not to cut open the wall and free the cat.

"Absolutely not. We're talking about $100, $200 to do something like that. That absolutely is no excuse," he said.

Trimble said he hopes people won't judge all of Dallas' animal services by this incident.

"I would hope the public would not cast blame on an entire group of people who are trying to do their job, and in most cases doing a good job, just because of the actions of one person who could have caused this to happen," he said.

It is not known at this point whether anyone at City Hall outside the shelter was aware the cat was trapped and being allowed to die in the shelter wall.
