Default More painful than childbirth? Heck YES!!!!

I have always heard that kidney stones were more painful than having a baby......now I know the rumors are true!!!

OMG...this has been the worst week for me. At least I was able to get through my son's party on Saturday.....I thought I would be stuck in bed in the fetal position all day.

How long does it take to pass them??

I'm waiting right now to hear back form a urologist because the pain seems to be going up instead of down. We have a trip this weekend to Austin........this really sux because I can't drive around the block much less for 6 hours.

Anyone else here ever share this awful experience?

Yep, I have had so many I think I hould be able to claim them on my taxes.

Who are you seeing? Dr. Staub, & Dragoon are really good.

    Welcome to the club!

I do hope you start feeling better soon. The strongest pain killers I have ever taken were for kidney stones.

My doctor told me to start taking a supplement called "Stone Free". You can get it at the health food store. I haven't had passed any stones since I started taking the supplement.

At the hospital Wed they gave me 5mg lortabs.......might as well have given me tylenol w/ codine.
The other med was torodal (sp).......but when the pain starts....nothing seems to help.

Thanks for the suggestion....I may have to look for some of that!

I can't figure it out though.....I drink one 12oz glass of milk every morning and the rest of the day....WATER.

    WTH????

I have had two of them and yes they are horrible. Indy, I am sorry you are having to go through this and hope that they will pass on their own quickly.
My mom and dad both had them, my sister and one of my brothers has had them, so I guess I am lucky that I have only had two.

I've often wondered if they were. Over the years I kept hearing old wives tales about drinking too much Dr. Pepper or eating too much spinach would cause them, but I drink a lot of DP and have never had any problems with kidney stones and no one in my family has ever had kidney stones.

One dr told my son too much calcium buildup would cause them and asked if he drank a lot of milk. He never drinks milk!

My Mom was told hers were calcium based and not to eat much cheese or drink much milk. As for spinach, mmmmm we like spinach but really don't eat that much. Mom and Dad did not drink DP and I drink it once and a while.

As for that pain, it was not worse than child birth for me, really about the same, but with child birth I at least had a beautiful baby to show for my labor .

No one in my family has them but me. Dr. Staub told me I have a floating kidney. When I am laying down, my kidneys are normal, when I stand or sit, they drop about 3-6 inches. the right worse than the left. Therefore the urine does not completly drain from my kidneys.

It took 1 stone a year for 9 years 4 stones in the 10th year, while I was pregnant and one the size of a marble before they noticed that. I go back every 6 months or so to take some pics, but it' not fun. They had to do a Lithotripsy on the big one, And other than an infection or two I havn't had any problems since Jan 06 (knock on wood)

The worst pain is when its moving if you can catch it, Dr. Staub will send it off to be tested. Then they can find out what its made of, and they will take a REALLY blown up picture and you can see why it hurts so much. It will look like a porkypine. (sp)

Take the loratab it will help, Dr. Staub will give you more, he is not stingy with it. Also the toradol (sp) is a muscle relaxor, it will help with the back pain the infection will cause (Since you have a stone 99% chance there is an infection too) Sleep lots, drink canberry juice too. Not sure what it does but it helps. I drink cran-apple or Grape or whatener, the straight cranberry is to much for me.

Make sure you stay hydrated that is most important. I used to take Clear tract, it is a cranberry suplement.

Johnny what is the active ingredient in Stone free? I haven't heard of that. I am alway looking for new stuff to help.

Indy I hope you feel better soon!

It's the worst feeling! At age 9 it was my appendix, at 15 kidney stones, at 16 gallbladder, then 3 c-sections! Oh my goodness!
