    Default Bricks and drills

I going to move my dish off of my chimney, down to the side of my house, attach it to the bricks, have a special arm for this project. Need to get a more stable platform for the dish. Wind.
OK so I'm supposed to drill into the bricks. I have the proper drill bit, I think. So who has drilled into bricks on the side of your house, what should I expect?

I'm going to take a wild stab here and say, "you don't have a brick chimney"? Are you sure this is a recomended mounting? The size of the dish, the strain of the weight, and wind load, may loosen your brick and remove it. It's hard to say without seeing it. But yeah use a masonry bit and get after it. A hammer drill would make it much easier, brick is kind of hard to drill. The mortar joint is real easy, but don't trust it. It is mostly sand. Can't you mount it on a facia board with long screws to get into the subfacia? That would be preferable I would think. Good luck.

Chimneys out here in newer houses are wood---------------------------Wonderful. I would not let the installers put directly on the roof. Not on my shingles. So it was put ()screwed into the wood, cheap wood at that, on the chimney. So after many years of wind, the 1x4 wood is breaking up.
Nothing on this house is thick wood, so the soffit scares me too. So I went and ordered this metal mount that is screwed in to bricks, not the mortor.
It's just a tad windy today, so statilite is off and on as the wind blows.
I have fooled with the dishes so much on the drill sites, so that I have tv, that I know how to set up the dish itself. Just not real sure on the bricks. Really don't want to tear up anybrick on the house. Thanks, I'll start tomorrow with one hole see what happens. I have finished the last well I was on, so have a little time. Coming to Midland this weekend for a birthday party then will finish up on Monday on the dish mount.

The kit comes with lead inserts, lag bolts etc. Just had to buy a 1/2 bit. Seems that the one I did not have.

Is putting it on a pole and sticking it in the yard out of the question?

Dish is mounted and sited in.
Now anyone know something about the multi switches? I have two receivers in the house and need the correct switch.

Well went and sucked all the information I could out of an installer of dishes. Seems on my system, I just need to undo the cable on current dish, push that wire back into the small hole in the wood chimney. Get in the attic and use a barrel connector to connect the wires to the cable I have run to that spot in the attic, then back outside and connect the two cables to the current two cables on the new dish. Sounds simple enough.
But TstreetE says the wind is coming, so I'll wait until I get back Sunday to try this. Roof is 10/12 pitch and I'm just to old to fall. Might hurt some.

My dish has been mounted out on the back corner of my roof for years. Rock solid and does not leak water if it rains. It's all sealed with rubber washers and some type of sealer compound also. I also have some sort of "switch" in my attic where all the cables are routed. I have 4 Tv's in my house connected to a DishNetwork system. Works great for me. My installation was done back in 2006 by RT Satellite in Midland. They did great work. Everything was very neat and professional.

thanks for the info. Pogo. I'm in between wells, so have to do something. Fun to do things that you know just enough to get in trouble with.
I had a co out here 6 weeks ago to do the whole job from the start. They didn't have the kind of mount I wanted and I guess they just forgot about me cause work was involved.
I have just two TV's hooked up to Dish, so I guess my set up is too simple. Don't know, will try and switch out the wires in the morning.

Monday I went up top on the roof, unscrewed the cable wires, unscrewed the dish from the chimney, carried all to ladder, made the ground without rolling off the roof.

Went in the attic and hooked up the cables to different dish, went inside to see if anything worked. Turned on the TV, let system boot up. TV and dish worked. I did it. Went back to master TV and turned it on, this one did not work with no dish signal. Doggone. Said I would wait until Tuesday to check out the problem. Tuesday morning, was going to take down the dish and replace with the dish that had been on the roof. Would have to re site the dish in, not fun for me, not hard, but not fun. Got this bright idea to just change out the feed horn. Took the feed horn off dish that had been on the roof, replaced the one that was mounted. Went in the house to check if anything worked. Happy to report, both TV's have the dish signal, portable system is also up and running for the next well. What does all this rambling mean?
Means as much time as I spent doing this project, that I would starve trying to make a living doing this.
For the guys, I did get a new hammer drill out of the deal. Works really good into bricks and concrete. Has regular drilling switch also.

Now what is the next project going to be. Need to learn how to not run over baby rabbits when cutting yard! They were hiding under weeds, the babies don't run as most rabbits do. Need a grass beater to go in front of me and run those little things off?
