Midland, Texas - The cost of housing in west Texas continues to rise. For many people affordable housing is hard to find. According to rent.com, the range in rent costs in Midland goes from $574 to a staggering $2,880 a month. That has the average renter paying around $1200 a month.

Odessa is seeing higher prices as well, ranging from $300 to $1700 a month with an average of a $1,000 a month. And these prices are only for units that are available. Many apartment complexes have no vacancy and the cost of renting or buying a home is out of the range of many people. But an exciting new apartment complex is soon coming to downtown Midland that could bring some relief.

The Brownstones Apartments will be located at the corner of Marienfeld and Front Street right in downtown.

Apartments that are $600-$700 with government grants funding them? They will not be Luxury apartments. Just shacks that are newly built and not the 30 year old average in this town.

Luxury and affordable don't go together here right now, but good for renters, and good for the area.

For $1,200 a month, why not get a house?
