I think uniforms are stupid and pointless. They got introduced into my junior high in my 8th grade year and I had to wear them in 8th and 9th grade. I don't think it makes all the kids look the same. You can easily tell the haves from the have nots regardless of uniforms. The thugs still wear their pants up under their butts... albeit with a belt around their thighs. Kids get sent to the office everyday to hassle their parents to bring them belts... and I don't view belts as a necessity if your pants aren't falling down.

Correlation is not causation. I would hazard a guess that it has more to do with the culture of the school than uniforms.

Although uniforms can help in that culture.

However, like it was already said, a uniform policy does little to create the "even playing field" that it is intended to create. When you take away the vanity value of clothing, things like watches and underwear become the new vanity symbol. And how stupid is it to be bullied because you aren't wearing Calvin Klein underwear? Or a Fossil watch?

My belief is that focusing on clothing as being that important sends a misguided message on the importance of fashion to daily life.

I think if you want to get rid of sagging trousers, you just walk up and pick a fight. How is someone dressed like this going to stand a chance?

Most all do. Uniforms are quite the norm in England, France, Japan, Australia, Brazil, etc. Most countries in the world require uniforms even in High School.

I am waiting on Goddard to complain about my sons pants. 2 pairs are torn in one knee. One pair is new and still looks good. When they do, I will remind them that this is supposed to be a "cheaper" alternative. and If I want to pay less that $30. for Khaki's they are going to get torn up. If they want the ones that don't get torn they can buy him some damn Dockers.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort.

I am so sorry I don't live up to your standard of perfection. There might be a misspelled word or a typo above.

Don't they still make iron on patches? I don't ever had a pair of pants or jeans while in school that didn't have a patch or two on them.
We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

know why my mom was so damned cool? because she would put the patches on the inside of the knee, not the outside. It looked a whole lot better as the patches were hidden expertly with only a small blemish where the hole was.

I'm not too fond of elementary schools in uniforms at all.
WARNING!! Goddard is known as the yelling school - The assistant principal(McNichols) is a *****, she sits her fat ass behind a desk and yells at parents and children from inside her office, she sets the example and some of the teachers and administration follow her lead.

Well, thats no good. I'm known as the ***** parent. Let that woman yell at me, and see if I dont come unglued. I'll go to jail over my kids and some dumbass yelling at me/my kids. Thats not going to get through to my kids, or me. She better control her moods, is all i'm going to say. My kids have been in Scharbauer Elementary, and ask Ms Early if I didnt come unglued on Thursday. I did. But thank God for her, she's awesome and was able to calm me down.
